One of the founders of our hobby and one of the most unsung contributors to Dungeons & Dragons, Len Lakofka has passed away at the age of 76.
Along with the many adventures, classes, spells, and rules he created, Len was also father of the Suel in Greyhawk, designer of their gods, and namesake of the Lendore Isles.
The value of his work goes without saying, but his presence will be sorely missed. The adventures of Leomund go on.
Frank Mentzer and Darlene launched the Empryea kickstarter today.
It's the first GH boxed set since 2008's Castle Zagyg.
It's the first ever boxed set to expand Oerth EVER.
The credits are a who's who of GH authors and artists (Cook, Hammack, Johnson, Lakofka, Niles, Ward, Williams, Brown, Caldwell, Dee, Easley, Elmore, Jaquays, Diesel, Otus, etc.)
Yeah, a real bummer. I think he needs to start smaller and build momentum. Do a 32-page folio with the Darlene maps like the Flanaess did. Then some modules to get more fans. Then do the $250k boxed set.
The last Aquaria products were a few Eldritch Ent modules which were fine, but idiosyncratic and plagued with a crappy generic percentile rules system and cover art that doesn't appeal to old school D&D fans.
Just occurred to that $250k is twice what the widely successful Marmoreal Tomb raised and three and a half times what the well established AS&SH 2e raised.
