    Languages of Greyhawk

    Well, this has come up for today. What are all the languages of the Flaness and what can you tell me about them?

    And how can they work as bonus languages for 3e? If this topic needs to be moved, then move it. Laughing

    Lately I've been trying to learn a few German words and phrases to spice up my Keolandish-speaking, dirndl-wearing, 5e cleric of Wenta, Kóri Brewster. Razz

    I also wrote an article here on Canonfire (I think it's called An Alternative Linguistic History of the Flanaess) describing my take on the human languages of the Flanaess.

    Tlaman (yuan-ti language based on Olman with Touv admixture)
    Touv (native language of the Kingdom of Kundali)
    Xolasa (Olman with Rasol admixture, spoken within Xolapeqa)

    From the Amedio Jungle you also have:

    * "Moon Doggy" 😁😋

    Some editions of the game (as early as AD&D and beyond) simplified many of these by putting them under single headings. For example, all giants, trolls, ogres, hags, and more spoke 'Giantish'; all dragons spoke 'Draconic'.

    I interpret this as meaning that they share a basic language that all members of the group understand, but each sub-species has its own variant words and slang phrases that may not be understood by those outside their sub-species.

    The source material indicated specific languages rather than any mention of generalized languages such as giantish or draconic but I did note down shared languages.
