Race: Human - Half-Elf (Endra, in the Flan tongue)
Description: Half-Elven humans are not truly a culture unto themselves, but are widespread enough to justify adding them to our list of optional subraces. Half-Elves show all the variety of humans in terms of appearance, but tend to have a more lithe, slender look, and slightly pointed ears.
Despite the fact that both parent's races are fairly civilized, Half-Elves suffer a degree of stigma and predjudice in their youth, and lack some of the finer social skills of their pure blood cousins. Half-Elves favor no particular career path, and may choose any class.
Ability Modifiers: -1 Cha (minimum 3)
Special Ability: Half-Elves can see in the dark, similar to the ability of their Elven parent, with a range of 20 feet. Half-Elves also recieve a bonus of +1 to saving throws against sleep and paralysis.
Note: Half-Elves who take the Elf class do not recieve the Elven racial abilities of Saving throws, Infravision, Paralysis Immunity or Secret Door detection. Their own racial special abilities, outlined above, override these.
Class Restrictions (and XP modifiers by class)
    • Cleric: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Druid: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Fighter: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Paladin: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Knight: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Avenger: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Magic User: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Mystic: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Thief: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Elf: Yes (-5% to earned XP, Half-Elves are not eligible for the Attack Ranks option, limiting their level in this class to 10th)

Race: Human - Half-Orc (Urrok in the language of the Flan)
Description: While not truly a culture unto themselves, Half-Orc, Half-Human crossbreeds are common enough in the Flanaess to warrant mention here. Usually the unfortunate and unintended offspring of human women and marauding Orc males, Half-Orcs cover the entire spectrum of human appearance, though almost always appearing brutish and ugly and usually lacking developed social skills due to their stigmaed and traumatic childhoods. Half-Orcs favor the Thief and fighter classes, usually lacking the education or intelligence needed to become Magic Users or Clerics.
    Ability Modifiers: +1 Con or +1 Str (maximum 19), -2 Int (minimum 3), -1 Wis (minimum 3), -2 Cha (minimum 3)
Special Ability: Half-Orcs can see in the dark like their Orcish parents, and recieve the Infravision ability with a range of 20 feet.
Note: Having an ability score of 19 grants a +4 bonus to the relevant stats, instead of the +3 granted at 18.
Class Restrictions (and XP modifiers by class)
    • Cleric: Yes (-10% to earned XP)
    • Druid: no
    • Fighter: Yes (+5% to earned XP)
    • Paladin: no
    • Knight: Yes (-5% to earned XP)
    • Avenger: Yes (+5% to earned XP)
    • Magic User: no
    • Mystic: Yes (-10% to earned XP)
    • Thief: Yes (+5% to earned XP)

Race: Human - Half-Celestial (Aasimar in the Flan tongue)
Description: It is extremely rare for a celestial to take romantic interest in a mortal human, but not unknown. The products of these pairings are known as Aasimar. Aasimar run the full spectrum of human appearance, though they tend to be beautiful and lithe, with a flicker of divine warmth in their smiles. Aasimar excel as clerics and paladins, and tend to favor these classes.
Ability Modifiers: +1 Int or +1 Wis (maximum 18), +2 Cha (maximum 19), -2 Str, Con or Dex
Special Ability: Aasimar can see in the dark fairly well, and recieve the Infravision ability with a range of 20 feet. They also recieve a +2 bonus to saving throws against all spells cast by Chaotic Clerics.
Note: Having an ability score of 19 grants a +4 bonus to the relevant stats, instead of the +3 granted at 18. Aasimar may not be of the Chaotic alignment.

    • Thief: no

Race: Human - Half-Fiend (Cambion in the Flan tongue, also sometimes called Tieflings, from the common tongue)
Description: Though not quite as rare as Half-Celestials, Cambions are still very uncommon in the flanaess. The accursed children of pairings of mortal humans and demons or devils, Cambions grow up into a society that they cannot call their own, being feared or despised by almost everyone they meet, usually for vague "gut feeling" type reasons rather than anything justifiable.
Cambions run the gamut of human appearance, possessing either a cold, dark beauty or a profound ugliness, with a flicker of disturbing energy in their grin.
Cambions excel as Clerics and Avengers, and tend toward these classes.
    Ability Modifiers: +1 Str or +1 Dex (maximum 18), +1 Con (maximum 19), -1 Int, or Wis (minimum3), -1 Con (minimum3)
Special Ability: Cambions can see in the dark fairly well, and recieve the Infravision ability with a range of 20 feet. They also recieve a +2 bonus to saving throws against all spells cast by Lawful Clerics.
Note: Having an ability score of 19 grants a +4 bonus to the relevant stats, instead of the +3 granted at 18. Cambions may not be of the Lawful alignment.
