I believe that the use of Time Units would be allowed to be used for the same reason that hit points, levels, and other game mechanics are allowed to be. I kinda doubt Time Units is even trademarked (which I think some of the other stuff relating to mechanics is).
If anyone knows differently, please, feel free to drop me a note so that any unintended indiscretions can be removed from the site.
