Again, many thanks. I'm very gratified that these NPC descriptions are not two-dimensional-my intent in defining the personalities of the rulers, givng them personal beliefs, hobbies, personality quirks, and so forth is to show that even characters originally designed for games can be just as deep and multifaceted as any other fictional character.

I must admit I'm surprised as to which personalities people have replied to-I personally think the tormented nature of Ivid V (a combination of King Lear and Richard III, with a dash of schizophrenia and topped off with encephalitis) is my best work, although people really seem to relate to Spidasa.

Still, I guess that's good; my goal in doing work such as this-the Greyhawk Travel Guide, the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer Addendum, the history, culture and nation of the demihuman races, and so forth-is to try and make Greyhawk more than just a campaign setting that exists only as a backdrop for dungeon crawls; I'm rather pleased with the patchwork of social beliefs and shades of gray I've put together, although sometimes I'm not happy with how gray or dark I've made certain areas-whether they're too dark or too sweet and nice depends, but all in all the impression I have of Greyhawk is that there is stark white and pitch black, but there are many, many shades of gray in between. The world is a grim, unpleasant, and often dark place, but there are also elements of compassion, kindness, and joy. Just as there are elements of utterly wicked evil, there are also examples of nearly pure, unbridled good.
