    Fellers,

There is a village (name escapes me) on the Furyondy side of the river, whose existance IMO is mainly a result of the ferrrying of people and goods to and from Verbobonc-town.  There have been several incarnations in the Canon of Verbobonc that involve a bridge, but IMO the Velverdyva is much too wide at this point to be bridged.

My vision of Verbobonc town (CY 570) is a walled town (with lots of space inside the walls for a bit of farming and grazing) at the base of a large rock outcropping (this outcropping rises about 500ft above the river, it is the terminal end of a ridge associated with the nearby Kron Hills) atop which sits the Citidel Greyfist. A tributary of the Velverdyva (IMC Nigb's Run) enters the river at the base of the outcropping providing a good "harbor" on the river for ships and barges to.  (The town sits in-between the outcropping and the tributary--hope this makes sense...) The gnomes of the town live mostly at the base of the outcroppping in their "rents" (I think they are called).  The remnant elvish structures (as noted in the LGG, I think) are found farther south where the wall meets the outcropping, where the slope of the outcropping is still wooded.  The humans live in the town proper near the mouth of Nigb's Run. Greyfist sits atop the ruins of an older elfish fort, but the current structure is pure Aerdy, like what you find in Dyvers.

IMC The Viscounty extracts "toll/fee" from all those (i.e., most) using Verbobonc as a port of call.  This is a major source of income for the Viscount. I would suppose the Lord of the town in Furyondy would do the same.

    Kind of went on--sorry!
