Well, actually, I presume it is inspired by Sun Tzu's "Art of War".

"The Art of War: Sūn Zǐ Bīng Fǎ) is a Chinese military treatise that was written by Sun Tzu in the 6th century BC, during the Spring and Autumn period. Composed of 13 chapters, each of which is devoted to one aspect of warfare, it is said to be the definitive work on military strategies and tactics of its time, and still one of the basic texts."

It's been around a while ... I think that I first read excerpts of it when I was in the Army.  Still a nice little adaptation.  But the "Book of Five Rings" is also good ... especially if you have ever played the RPG or CCG "Lagend of the Five Rings that is somewhat based on it in a fantasy setting.
