Thanks much for the comments, Mystic-Scholar! That's the kind of help I'm looking for. :)
I know that 3.5e does henchmen differently, but Sir Xaris was my main PC all through my AD&D years. To convert him over to 3.5e I didn't want to change things overly much. So, instead of having a single 13th level cohort and dozens of 1st-2nd level followers, I left his henchmen with the levels they had earned. <shrug>
It is my assumption that every DM will make any changes they feel work better for their own campaign just as I do for every module I use. No matter how I write such things up (like the stats for Sir Xaris and Gonfalon), I don't expect any DM to use them exactly as I present them. :)
