Dear RB (gotta love those initials!)

The Orbs were described by REM in Dragon 230 in an extremely GH way (featuring corespondance between Otto and Johanna of Boccob. It features something of a history of their creation and where they may currently be found, as well as suggested powers. I would love to post spoilers but I recommend giving it a solid read.

As for the Codex - finding it is one thing, finding a sturdy enough mule to drag it back to the nearest town is another (maybe that is taht explains the tomb of Tzunk's hands from Iuz the Evil - it is a wink from Sargent).
