    I know what you mean. Even the amount of magic in official Greyhawk is too much for me. My wizard schools have barely a dozen members including the apprentices (apart from Greyhawk's Guild and the Zashassar). In my campaign a 7th level wizard is feared by all, an 11th Wizard is considered extremely powerful and magic items are so rare that each +1 sword is valuable enough to be named. It does require a lot of fine tuning when the official sources have 9th level wizards acting as barmen and shopkeepers, and all npcs seem to have at least one magic weapons, and for what? You only need them to fight certain monsters anyway. I mean remember the movie Alien? That's much more fun scenario for me as a DM.
