Re: Favorite Heroic Persona of Greyhawk (Score: 1) by Duicarthan on Thu, April 28, 2005 (User Info | Send a Message | Journal) http://www.greyhawkonline.com/duicarthan | Beowulf was a hero by circumstance. Gilgamesh was out for himself constantly! The fact that heroes as this ran across and defeated a threat to society was heroic.
Wolverine has killed men mercilessly as well as saved them, yet is regailed as a hero.
Turin is somewhat of a savior to the Wild Coast, due to the fact that hes strong enough to help those ppl against the humanoid hordes. Not only that but he SAVED Nerof Gasgal from being assassinated by Lassiviren the Dark!
As for Mordenkainen well his exploits are well known. Though dwelling on his mechanizations is a bit single sided. He has done good as well, he's delved dungeons in search of treasure and fame, and protected the lives of his friends as well.
So honestly, I find this arguement a little more weighted to the end of what makes a hero, a hero.
To some its apparently always doing good. But to others its doing something brave and inspiring to others.
