This is a tough one to call for me:

    - I love the Greyhawk city details and the Flanaess daily life details (like the meal Chubb serves in the Bandit Kingdoms) of SoOC
    - I love the large-scale military engagements of AoE
    - I love the Abyssal lore and details from SoD and CED

    Allan.

Easy choice for me, since Saga of Old City is the only one I ever had a chance to read. :-)
Can't remember jack for details, but it seemed to be an enjoyable read when i was 13 or 14 and first got a hold of it.

I have a great problem with Gygax as a novel writer - I feel he's best in the shorter form. Thus, my vote goes to Night Arrant, where several amusing stories together make a great collection.

Certain descriptions of Castle Greyhawk and Odd Alley/Weird Way are too excellent for words, as well. :)

    Cheers,

Saga of Old City was the only novel that seemed to follow some basic literary rules.

What literary "rules" are you referring to?

Easy one for me too. I have only been lucky enough to read Artifact of Evil, I did find a battered old copy of Saga, but lent it to a mate before reading it and he never gave it back (so I am assuming he enjoyed it). But the big G, is on my list of books to read, and I will be redoubling my efforts to locate any read as many as I can.

I really like the gritty, dirty feel he gives to what is essentially very high fantasy literature.
